Most of the gain comes from two things: spray on moisturized skin, and spray on skin rather than into the air. The other five tricks below each add an hour or two. None of them turns a fragrance that is gone before lunch into an all-day one, which is why trick seven is about what you buy.
1. Moisturize first
Put an unscented lotion or a plain body oil on the spot, give it a minute to sink in, then spray. Perfume clings to skin that has something on it and slides off skin that is dry. Unscented matters; a scented lotion fights the perfume.
The honest limit: this adds hours, not a day. A fragrance that is a morning and needs a top-up becomes most of a workday, not a full day.
2. Spray on skin, not into the air
The walk-through cloud looks great in films and mostly perfumes the floor. Hold the bottle a hand's width from your skin, spray, and let it dry.
Longevity comes from fragrance oils sitting on warm skin, and the mist only delivers them if it lands there. This fixes waste, not the formula: a skin scent stays a skin scent, you just get all of it. For how many, see the 2-4-6 rule.
3. Pick the spots that stay warm
Neck, chest, behind the ears, inside the elbows, wrists. Warm skin keeps pushing scent into the air for hours, which is why the same spray behind the ear outlasts one on the back of a hand.
The catch: warm spots burn through the fresh opening faster. If you love the first twenty minutes of a citrus, add one spray somewhere cooler, like the forearm.
4. Do not rub your wrists
Spray, then leave it alone. Rubbing wipes the liquid onto the other wrist and warms the skin, so the opening evaporates faster and you skip straight to the middle.
A small one: not rubbing will not add hours. It just means you get the perfume in the order it was designed.
5. Match the concentration to the day
EDT, EDP, Parfum, Elixir: each step up usually means more fragrance oil and less alcohol, and the oil is what stays on skin once the alcohol has flashed off in minutes.
There are two catches. A flanker, a same-line sibling like Intense, Sport or Elixir, can be a different formula with a different label in our data. 6. Store the bottle in the dark
Box, drawer or wardrobe, cap on. Not a sunny shelf, not the bathroom. Light and heat break down the fragrance oils, and the fresh top notes go first.
This does not make a new bottle last longer on skin; it stops an old one from lasting less. The four storage rules cover the details.
7. Buy for longevity in the first place, and check the label in the app
Tricks one to six together add a few hours at best. The formula sets the ceiling. Heavy base notes like vanilla, tonka bean, amber, musk and tobacco sit on skin for hours; light citrus and green notes lift off in minutes.

What does not work
- Layering random products. A shower gel, a lotion and a perfume from three different lines do not stack, they muddle. Layer within one line or go unscented underneath.
- Spraying more. Going from three sprays to eight makes the first hour louder, not the last hour much longer. Everyone around you pays for it.
- Spraying clothes only. Fabric holds one stage of the scent for a long time; nothing develops, and some oils stain. Skin first, then one spray on the shirt for the trail.
Common questions
Why does my perfume fade after 2 hours?
Usually one of three reasons: dry skin, a light concentration, or a formula built from notes that do not last. If the card says "a full day" and you are still losing it by lunch, try tricks one and three first. You may also have stopped smelling it; ask a friend before you re-spray.
Does perfume last longer on clothes or on skin?
On clothes it lingers longer but does not change. On skin it develops, which is what it was designed for. Do both: skin first, then one spray on a scarf for the trail.
Which lasts longer, EDT or EDP?
