What each one smells like
The EDT is grapefruit peel and cold pink pepper on a clean cedar desk, with a thread of incense smoke an hour in: the sharpest and freshest of the Bleu versions.
The EDP is grapefruit and mint over warm sandalwood, rounder at the edges, the incense turned down and an amber glow turned up: the same desk with the heating on.
How common it is
The EDP is the most-rated bottle in the Bleu de Chanel line in our data, with close to twice the ratings of the EDT. It is a crowd-pleaser almost everyone has smelled, and you will smell it on other people, at the office and on the train.
The EDT is still famous, but it is the less common of the two. It is the version purists prefer, and the one fewer people wear.
Do they actually smell different?
Less than the names suggest, more than nothing. Both are fresh, citrus, woody and spicy, both sit in the Clean & Fresh family, and grapefruit, ginger and vetiver run through both. The EDT leads with pink pepper and cedar, so it reads sharper and drier, with the incense more noticeable in the base. The EDP swaps in lemon, mint and nutmeg and warms the base with sandalwood, so it reads smoother and sweeter. Side by side, the difference shows in the drydown, not the opening. Some people who love the EDT find a note in the EDP that they cannot place and do not want, so test both on skin.
Which one lasts longer?
The EDP. In our data it lasts a full day and fills a room, leaving a trail. The EDT lasts most of a workday and stays at arm's length. Three sprays of the EDP in the morning are still there at dinner; the EDT wants a top-up after lunch. The EDT's lighter projection is not a flaw. It is why the app tags the EDT for the beach and the EDP for formal events, and a quieter bottle is harder to overspray.
Which one is better value?

Is Bleu de Chanel EDP just a stronger version of the EDT?
Stronger, yes: it lasts longer and projects further. But the notes change too. Both open with grapefruit and ginger, then the EDP trades the EDT's pink pepper and cedar for nutmeg and sandalwood, so the base is warmer and sweeter. What about the Bleu de Chanel Parfum?
